Bro. Obet Cabrillas of Kerygma graced the Third Friday Prayer Gathering last March 20, 2009 with much nostalgia for his friends and mentors in the Mater Dei M.E. Community. Giving reference with high esteem to his former mentors, Tony Pat Rivera, Bro. Obet said , “Tell me who your Mentors are and I’ll tell you where you are!.. and here I am!” One who goes places to talk, to preach or to evangelize, “all for the Glory of God!” He also takes pride of the opportunity accorded to him to deliver a talk for such significant occasion, the anniversary month of Mater Dei M.E. Community
Obviously, Bro. Obet maintained a soft heart for the community. This feeling then became the subject of his talk on the beauty of life and the beauty of relationships. And with his penchant for making acronyms, we have capsulized his message with :
“SAVOR”
S - SEASONS - cited the Thesalonians 5:18 “Be joyful always, pray
unceasingly.Give thanks in all circumstances for this is the will of
God. For you in Jesus Christ
A - AFFIRMATION – according to William James “From cradle to grave,
man will never outgrow the need for affirmation”
V - VICTORIES - Albert Schweistzer says “The things that did not kill you
made you strong”
O - ORDEAL - “Trials function like washing machine in ourselves. They twist us,
spin us and knock us around. In the end, we become clean”
R - RELATIONSHIPS then Bro. Obet sang “Every moment spent with
you is a moment I treasure. I don’t want to close my eyes. I don’t
want to fall asleep cause I’ll miss you Baby and I don’t want to miss a thing”
In parting he said, “Success is the fullness of love that you have in your heart and your passion to express in everything you do and to every person you meet.”
Yes, Bro Obet made us move. He made us savor life in that very midst. He told us to reach out and say “Thank you” to affirm the goodness we have received , or “Sorry” to restore and to bring back to goodness of the relationship.
Then we knew, “The voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” – Marcel Proust |
