Celebrating Family Fun Day is a time to spend a day with our family, and it is also the perfect time to take a look at how we can empower ourselves to have a healthy and active lifestyle through sports. Engaging in a sport activity or learning a new exercise can help us develop new friendships, learn new skills, increase confidence, stay in shape and make us look and feel young. And these benefits were achieved by the members of the Mater Dei Community last Sunday. Although, we all know that Sunday is a rest day for most of career-oriented people, still it’s not burden and responsibility to 55 families who attended and witnessed the Family Fun Day held at Department of Agrarian Reform Multipurpose Covered Court in Elliptical Road, Quezon City.
The program started with the celebnration of the Holy Mass followed by aerobics as a warm up. Before the game began, the Welcome Remarks was given by the MATER DEI President Sam Lulou Asia. It seems that everyone is so excited to compete with their opponents. You can hear the cheers, taunt and tease from their peers and loved ones. The badminton was divided into 2 categories: men’s and ladies’ double. There were 20 players who joined the men’s doubles and 16 players for the ladies’ doubles. As we looked at them while playing, we can’t help but admire them as they do their hand strokes and hit the shuttlecock. On the other side of the court, 16 partners (32 players) were competing for the Basketball 3-Point Shoot Out. Players can’t hide their frustrations on their faces as they missed a shot. There were 2 teams which competed for volleyball as well as the cheering competition, the MLA and Worship/Music Ministry. Who will say that they only rehearsed on the day of the competition? From the composition of songs, props and the dance steps, not to mention the stunts they did, we can say that it was well-planned. To continue the fun and excitement, there were parlor games for kids, mommys, and daddys, and for the whole family. There were also raffle prizes given away. To complete the program, of course we have to recognize those who really exerted their effort and did their best during the competition through the Awarding Ceremony. To thank the Lord for His guidance a closing prayer was led by Shepherd Albert Flores. As the saying goes, “All starts well, that ends well”. What a tiring day but it’s fulfilling especially when you spend it with your family.
To the Traditional and Special Events headed by Shepherd Albert Liza Flores and members: Shep Jess Phola Katindig, Arnel Ores Cruz, Ronnie Miriam Manalo, Danny Vicky Laurio, Rene Rosie Agustin, Nelson Lilian Morales, Ronnie Cel Sun, Tong Marie De Guzman, Fermin Marie Dungca and Dennis Kathleen Dimaano, CONGRATULATIONS for a job well done.
