The Board of Trustees had their first retreat on September 27-28, 2008 at St. Charles Borromeo Retreat House, Tagaytay City. Fr. Domie Guzman, who gave a very inspiring talk during the retreat, expressed his appreciation of the activity. He said that most leaders tend to forget that they have personal and spiritual needs; and that it is not enough for the leaders of the community to take cake of the flock, they also need to take care of themselves. The retreat aimed to make each Trustee closer to God and each other for them to be able to take care of the flock that were entrusted to them.
The retreat was formally opened by a group prayer. It was immediately followed by the first group activity which allowed all trustees to know each other in a deeper level. It is important for us to intimately know the people we meet at the board room for us to be able to accept one another and for us to be able to make some adjustments if the need arises. |
Fr. Domie gave a very inspiring talk on christian leadership. He invited all trustess to look into the life and writings of St. Paul as their guide in their mission. As christian leaders, trustees are called to be ideal. The community should be able to find Christ in them. As there is no accident with God, Fr. Domie reminded the Trustees the their being leaders of the community is no accident. They were "chosen instruments" and part of the plan of God as regards the community. The Trustee were reminded that the work is not theirs, it is God's and that in every plan and activity they should be able to discover God. And though success is important, the big business of being leaders should be sanctification.
All the activities in the retreat were geared towards making each Trustee discover each other. And, in the process of discovering, accceptance and support must necessarily follow. All these were done for the Trustees to be able to serve the Lord better through our MDMEC. |
