The MDMEC Concert was held last Sunday, October 4, 2009 at the Philamlife Auditorium, U.N. Avenue, Manila. The concert , dubbed as “As Grains of Wheat” was spearheaded by the Music Ministry as an initial fund raising campaign to enable the community to realize its dream of having its own Community Center.
The play date of the concert was initially set last September 27, 2009 but had to be reset because of the onslaught of Typhoon Ondoy which brought about havoc and destruction to many homes and possessions of our brothers and sisters. Yet, the show must go on. Our organizers immediately worked out for a new play date—taking into consideration the availability of the venue, the guest artist, the instrumentalists and the performers from our affiliates. Our Mater Dei, our beloved Mother, must have wanted us to hold the show on the First Sunday of the Rosary Month, which is October 4 and cleared the skies for our songs! Typhoon Pepeng spared Metro Manila so we could proceed with the show.
The Philam Auditorium had good audience pack. After the National Anthem, the concert opened with its Doxology, The Prayer as sang by Melvin and Millette Montales with an interpretative dance by Patricia Mae Lim.
BOT President Sam Lulou Asia greeted the community with their customary M.E. gestures and went on thanking the community and the sponsors for the support they are providing to make our Dream come true.
Indeed, October 4, 2009 was an appropriate date for our young SADER, Melvin Montales to sing, “Magsimula ka” and set the pace. We have a Dream and slowly the musical scores have lifted us to oneness. The dancers illustrated the symmetry of movements and showed that if everyone “Believes,” even thru the steps, the dance form and timing of forces, everything and everyone must align to reach for the star--“Ang Pangarap na Bituin”. We joined SADER Neomi Iain Giron in internalizing the message of her song with our community aspiration.
The Filipinos are known to be pliant and can gracefully swing themselves to adjustment. With the entrance of The Company, our guest performer for the evening, the penchant for gaiety swept in. In a medley of folk songs, “Si Pilemon” will always be there to entertain!
The second part of the program was a Performance Extravaganza. The audience was simply awed by the beauty and confidence of the performers as they projected themselves on stage
The MDMEC Music Ministry , the ladies clad in maroon gown and the gentlemen in their Barongs rendered the signature song for the night, “As Grains of Wheat”. The Holy Mother of God M.E. Community, the San Jose Del Monte Prayer Group, and the Gen. T. Ugnayan Group, our affiliate groups, all sang with gusto and happily shared their talents for Mater Dei M.E. Community.
Oh yes, the play of lights was a symphony in itself! Thanks to our Director Raymond O. Salvacion . Thanks also for bringing out the best in every performer and placing their performance to the desired aesthetic level .
Beck Flores with her song “Lipad” and the dance by Lorraine Varilla made us soar high. We believe we can fly … As Fr. Domie, our Spiritual Director said, “The source of our paradigm, that of grains and wheat is JESUS.”
May the Lord of Harvest–our God—bless and keep us all! |
