The Lectors and Commentators Renewal Seminar was held last Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Formation Center in Cubao, Quezon City. The seminar started with the Holy Mass led by Fr. George of St. Jude Parish, Q.C. after which he discussed and gave teachings on the following:
A. Prayer - as he quoted Mahatma Gandhi in saying “Prayer is not asking; it is a
longing of the soul. It is a daily admission of one’s weakness. It is
better in prayer to have a heart without words, than to have words,
without a heart.
B. Liturgy of the Hours or Divine Office – is the public prayer of the Church to
praise God and sanctify the day. It consists of:
1. Morning Parayer (Lauds) - praise
2. Prayer during the Day – before noon (terce)
3. Prayer during the Day - Midday (Sext)
4. Prayer during the Day - Afternoon (None)
5. Evening Prayer (Vespers) – thanksgiving
6. Night Prayer (Compline)
7. Office of Readings (Matins)
The Liturgy of the Hours is therefore the official set of daily prayers to be recited at the canonical hours by the clergy, religious orders and laity. It consists primarily of Psalms supplemented by hymns and readings.
The Mater Dei M.E. Community members who attended the renewal were Sisters Rose Araniego, Maris Alarma, Rheda Catacutan, Vicky Contraras, Nelia Guerrero, Josephine Ignacio, Emma Llamas, Adora Mabesa, Cherry Manuel, and Thelma Mercado. |
